“This is Just The Beginning” | Joseph Templeman Reflects on His Journey at Barrington James

In a candid conversation with Joseph Templeman, we explore his journey with us at Barrington James, commemorating his recent promotion to Team Sales Manager. Joseph takes us through his experiences, from starting as a Recruitment Consultant to reaching the esteemed role of Team Sales Manager (TSM) in just over two years.   

Q: When did you join Barrington James? 

A: I joined Barrington James on 7th June 2021. 

Q: What was your first role within the company? 

A: My first role was as a Recruitment Consultant. 

Q: What was the turning point in your career when you realized how much you could progress at Barrington James? 

A: I think the turning point for me was when I got promoted to Senior Consultant within my first year in recruitment. The support and training I received up to that point, and even now, made me realize how much the company encourages progression and moving up the ladder. 

Q: What are all the roles you have had during your time here? 

A: So, I started as a Consultant in June 2021, was promoted to Senior in May 2022, and now hold the position of TSM as of November 2023. 

Q: Who have been your biggest supporters? 

A: Richard, my director, has been my biggest supporter from day one. I would be nowhere near where I am today at Barrington James without him. Two other key figures have also been my biggest supporters: Jonathan Jenkins, our COO, and Rosa McCombe, our Training Manager. The training at Barrington James is unlike anything I've ever experienced, and the time and effort these two invest in it are major reasons for my successful career start. 

Q: What is your advice for overcoming failure? 

A: My advice for overcoming failure is not to dwell on what has happened but to think about how you're going to put it right next time. There's failure and bad news in recruitment all the time - we are dealing with humans, after all. It's about how you can deal with the bad news, not let it stop you in your tracks, and learn from setbacks, ensuring the same things don't happen again. 

Q: What does being a TSM mean to you? How will your career progress from here? 

A: Becoming a TSM means so much to me. From joining BJ with no prior recruitment experience to now leading a team, it shows how far I have come in such a short time. I'm super excited to see other people in our office follow in my footsteps. This is just the beginning for my career at Barrington James, and I can't wait to keep progressing through the company. 

Q: What has been your biggest highlight during your time at Barrington James? 

A: My biggest highlight is definitely this promotion. It was something I had in my goals from the very start, and to have achieved it so quickly is amazing. The paychecks along the way haven't been too bad either.
